Yuri Gorzey, CEO and founder of JCMATCH, answered questions from Christian Counseling Services.

Please tell me a little about your company and your affiliates (“A Time to Love Magazine,” and your charity). When did you start business? How are you different from other online dating services?

We started our JCMATCH project in 2007, focusing initially on finding investors, hiring top-notch experts, software developers and field experts, great writers for our magazine, and conducting tons of research and analysis on how to deliver the best online experience that meets the needs of Christian singles. We launched the dating site in March this year.

JCMATCH.COM is more than just an online dating service. The greatest differentiator from other dating sites is our Christian “environment.” In just a short period of time after we launched JCMATCH.COM, more than 20,000 people joined this dynamic Christian singles community. That’s the cost of a fast-food lunch – in exchange for one month of membership with the possibility of finding the love of your life and joining a real community doing real things!

We have been operating in a depressed economy for the life of the website so unfortunately, we do not have a basis from which to make any sort of economic comparison. What I can tell you is that the feedback that we have been getting from our members as it relates to price has been positive. This is very encouraging as our goal was to create a forum that was both effective and affordable and based on the current set of responses; we feel that we have been fairly successful.

What are some of the most important words of advice you can offer for Christians seeking a partner online?

Be open, be honest with the people you meet, and make sure your heart is true. Have a clearly defined set of criteria for your mate; most importantly, the Number One criterion is to make sure he or she is truly a Christian and that you share the same beliefs and values.

What are some of the mistakes that Christians make when searching for a partner online?

Well, before JCMATCH.COM, they were looking for a love in all the wrong places. Seriously, though, the biggest mistake that some Christian singles make is basing their choices on appearance rather than looking to find someone who embodies the essence of a true Christian. This is not to say that physical attraction is not important because it does play a role; but over the course of time, looks fade. We encourage our members to search for someone who lives a life that is in line with the Word of God. 2 Corinthians 6:14-18 clearly states that we should align ourselves with those who share Christian values and who love the Lord. In doing so, God is sure to bless such a relationship because both parties have been obedient to His Word.

Another mistake is making decisions too soon, from wanting to be married or be part of a couple rather than being single.
