Military Orders

The new series of novels from Martin Roth (who runs this website).

In the Middle Ages, military orders like the Templars defended Christians and fought for justice.

Now, in Martin Roth's latest series of novels, a church has established a clandestine new military order, to fight for today's persecuted Christians....

Transformations - Powerful Truths About Addiction and Grace

Transformations Drug & Alcohol Treatment Center in Florida offers a wide variety of therapeutic programs to meet client needs. Among these is a Christ-centered approach to drug addiction treatment.

According to the center's website: "Studies have shown that drug addicts who chose a faith-based approach to addiction recovery are more likely to avoid relapse and stay sober. Christian drug treatment, especially, has had a very high rate of success."

Nathan Oliver, Christian Drug Counselor at Transformations, spoke with Christian Counseling Services about his work.

Please tell me a little about the Transformations center.

Transformations was developed based on the need for a center that helps people in recovery make the transition from detox to halfway house living.  The center began in the Fall of 2008 and now has thirty beds as it continues to grow.

Clients receive two individual counseling sessions a week, 20 group counseling sessions, personal physical fitness training, life skills, and required attendance of 12-step groups daily.

Where do your clients come from?

While we have referral sources through the country, the majority of clients find our facility through searches on the internet. Many of our clients choose to stay in the Delray Beach area as they continue in recovery working and living in a halfway house facility. They also can attend free groups at our facility after they have graduated the program.

You offer what you call a “Christ-centered approach to drug addiction treatment.” Why do you offer this?

The most powerful aspect of recovery is strength through a "Higher Power". We believe that to be Jesus Christ and that the key to any recovery is surrender of control to Him and finding strength in Him. Many clients do not have much of a belief in God, but still have a hunger for a relationship like one with Christ. By offering a Christ-centered approach, clients are able to discover the most powerful truths about addiction and grace.

How does it differ from your regular treatment programs?

The difference is that clients attend several separate Christ-centered group therapy groups throughout the week, have a Christ-centered individual therapist and attend Celebrate Recovery groups in addition to AA/NA [Alcoholics Anonymous/Narcotics Anonymous] groups.

Do many clients take advantage of Christian drug treatment?

During any given week we have roughly 90-95 percent of our clients participating in the Christ-centered treatment, as it is optional. Many have found a new relationship with God through it which is the most exciting aspect of it for me.

What sort of results do you achieve?

The vast majority of clients that have actively engaged in the Christ-centered program have graduated our program and remained sober.  They report a new sense of Hope, a new concept of Grace, and true understanding of surrender. When clients graduate our program, invest in a 12-step community and church community, and stay connected with our groups; they have a very high rate of success in finding freedom from addiction.

How important is church/community to the success of such treatment?

Church and community is the most important aspect of this treatment. The success of AA/NA is built upon the concept of community. If clients actively engage in a church community and a Celebrate Recovery community, their rate of success drastically increases.

Any final words?

Christ says come as you are and that is how our clients are welcomed into the program. They will be given a wealth of recovery tools, be plugged into community, be challenged and grow, but most importantly they will have the opportunity to discover the truth of Jesus Christ in their lives.

Nathan, thank you very much.
